When I was younger I used to think that outdoor lighting on a house was weird since it was already night time. It made sense to me to have Christmas Lights up during Christmas but having the house illuminated every night was a crazy idea. As I grew up I realized what the benefits of outdoor lighting can do for a home. There’s many things that outdoor lighting can do for your home but today we are going to focus on the top three benefits. We are first going to discuss safety and security, then the decor aspect, and lastly the functionality that it can bring to your everyday life.

Safety and Security

One of the most important benefits of outdoor lighting is the safety and security that it brings to a home. It can deter robbers from breaking in by lighting up any area that they are able to hide in. The lighting acts as security lights that robbers tend to stay away from due to the risk factor these lights produce. People are more likely to look at your home due to the landscape lighting design that catches on lookers attention making your home the least desirable for any robber. This lighting can also help you and others stay safe from everyday accidents. Driveway lights help guide people through the driveway and helps prevent trips and falls. Landscape lighting can also illuminate stairs and holes that can cause accidents. This is how you can increase your safety and security with outdoor lighting.

Decor

Another benefit of outdoor lighting is the eye appeal it can bring. A good landscape design will turn your yard into your personal evening oasis. Outdoor pathway lights can lead to different places in your yard to highlight areas. For example, if you had a hammock and had lights leading to it you can create the feeling of being on a vacation. The pathway lights can also be used when you’re entertaining at your home and don’t want people to step on certain areas you can lead them exactly where you want without the worry of them destroying your flowers that are growing. Outdoor spotlights can also be used to illuminate interesting landscape and architectural features. If you have a wagon full of flowers or a fountain you would like to highlight all you would have to do it put a spotlight on it and watch as it transforms. This is how your decor can go beyond just the inside of your home.

Functionality

The safety and security plus the decor are nice bonuses to outdoor lighting but you also want it to be functional as well. Exterior lighting can create a warm welcoming feeling to your home making the quality time with your family last longer. By adding LED yard lights it enables outdoor grilling at all times and helps give family football games the ability to last past sunset. As a kid my favorite thing about summer was catching lightning bugs but my parents made me come inside once the sun had set, with garden lights kids don’t have to come in that early they can continue to play. Functionality of outdoor lighting is one of its major benefits to your home.

Adding exterior lighting can be very beneficial to a homeowner because it can help improve all parts of the home and be able to create memories that can last a lifetime. Next time you wonder about if you should get outdoor lighting just keep a few things in mind. Think about how you don’t have to worry about that robber breaking into your home. Think about that trick or treater that won’t fall into a hole or trip on your steps. Keep in mind the evening oasis just waiting for you outside your door. Lastly, think about the memories that can be created once the sun has set but the family time didn’t have to end.

Gates can come in all shapes, sizes, and materials.I never paid too much attention to what a gate was made of. I only saw how they were designed and noticed if they were a different color but it never occurred to me that the material of the gate mattered just as much as the design. When a customer wants a gate they want something that is unique to their personality but one that will last a lifetime as well. We decided to look into the 4 different types of gate materials and explain the pros and cons on each.

Wood

We use a metal frame with wood clad. Some pros of wood gates is they can be unique by being stained or painted in many colors. They work great as a barrier gate due to the close-boarded wood that can provide more privacy. Wooden gates are strong and durable, however, they may require more periodic maintenance than their steel counterparts. Also, if you live in a windy area the gate can act as a sail and destroy both the operator and the gate itself.

Aluminum

We personally do not recommend using aluminum for your automatic gates. The reason why is because the flex movement of aluminum tends to destroy gates. It’s also lightweight and strong winds can destroy the gate. Another reason we don’t recommend using this material is because the vibrations from the operator makes wear and tear on the aluminum which can cause the lifespan of the gate to decrease.

Steel (Wrought Iron)

Wrought iron gates have a reputation of strength and elegance. These gates can be as simple or as unique as the customer wants. Generally they can last for generations if cared for properly. Iron gates can withstand heavy use and harsh conditions that the seasons can bring. Typically these types of gates don’t conceal your property, but that can be viewed as a benefit because it’s easy to monitor what’s happening on the other side. Steel gates are recyclable and reusable. Costs of a gate made out of this material can vary widely depending on the size and customization. Wrought Iron gates can be painted or powder coated to obtain a variety of decorative finished.

Vinyl

We personally do not recommend using vinyl for your automatic gate. There is no reinforcement for this material. This means that there is no gate frame to hold the gate together when wind and storms come through. Gate posts tend to lean due to the plastic expanding and contracting with temperature variants.

When getting a gate a customer wants it unique to themselves and one that will last a lifetime. Here at Powers Gates and Lighting we are the experts and are a certified gate installer and gate designer. We make it our mission to give you a gate that is custom not only to you but to your property as well.
